New Heights Puppeteers |
|
In the summer of 2000 a group of New Heights
students, ages 12 to 16 and I made a series of hand puppets from a
variety of soft materials. These workshops were held at the Community
Campus in Portsmouth and I was hired by New Heights to create this
program.
The puppets were characters based on traditional children's
nursery rhymes and songs, which were in some way meaningful to them. The
first ideas came from the old song “There was an old lady who swallowed
the fly”. From that point on, more ideas developed and the children
made a total of 12 puppets to support the songs and rhymes in four
performances in local libraries. I was so pleased with the outcome as
were the participants and their audiences.
