Portsmouth Middle School Poetryfest In March 2002 I was hired to be part of the AIR program which included a variety of poets and actors as well as artists to create an event which the students were introduced to the art of poetry. The visual piece which I created was making handmade books from lovely papers they created during the week. They then used a variety of binding methods to finish the books off. Some of them had poems written to add to the books initially as well as others who chose to use the books as inspiration for poetry hand written into them later. It was a truly exciting experience to work with the entire seventh grade as well as local actors, poets, performers and the teachers of Portsmouth Middle School in such a multi media event. The end products were exhibited at the performance of the readings, skits and beat performances at the end of the month.
